This Is Not an Erect, All-Red Neon Body

BY Jill MikkelsonPublished May 1, 2005

Discordant and constantly mutating thrash art-core is hard to do well, but luckily there’s grind-punk’s premier underground thrashers Combat Wounded Veteran to show everyone how. This release is a compilation of songs pulled from out-of-print records, splits and previously unreleased songs amounting to a fury of 42 tracks clocking in around the half-hour mark. The neon pink guts of a raunchy and demented figure gracing the cover arrest ones senses just as viciously as the music. The mercurial guitar work, unpredictable beats and piercing vocals are the epitome of punk rock attitude. Considering the Locust’s recent brushes with the tentacles of relative success, this album might actually have a chance to reach more people than when CWV was a functioning unit.
