Cold Specks has already made a splash in the UK, and now the Etobicoke, ON-based singer also known as Al Spx is looking to do the same at home in Canada. Arts & Crafts will release her debut album, I Predict a Graceful Expulsion, on May 22, and you can stream the entire full-length effort right here on Exclaim.ca.

According to press release, the 11-track collection is "steeped in the musical traditions of the Deep South." And while Spx's music has frequently been labelled "doom soul," the album offers plenty of low-key gorgeousness, meaning that the sparse arrangements and sonic chilliness aren't oppressive or overwhelming.

Influences reportedly include Alan Lomax's field recordings, Mahalia Jackson, Bill Callahan and Tom Waits. Take a listen and judge for yourself below.

In the coming months, Cold Specks will embark on busy live schedule that will see her playing festivals and shows in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. See the itinerary here.
