If you head to Coachella's official website, you'll find that the festival has updated its health and safety rules, no longer requiring proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test, masks, or any other pandemic precautions.
"In accordance with local guidelines, there will be no vaccination, testing or masking requirements at Coachella 2022," organizers wrote. The change is in response to the state of California loosening its COVID-19 restriction guidelines; masks are now only mandated for certain indoor environments, while proof of vaccination or a negative test are only required for indoor events of 1,000 or more attendees.
While health organizations have said that outdoor events are safer than indoor events, that obviously doesn't guarantee that transmission at Coachella will be nonexistent, particularly now that even those who test positive for COVID will be granted entry to the festival.
According to Coachella's website, "COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. There is an inherent and elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place or place where people are present and there is no guarantee, express or implied, that those attending the festival will not be exposed to COVID-19."
Kanye West, Billie Eilish, and Harry Styles are headlining this year's festival, with the lineup already causing plenty of drama since being announced. Former headliner Travis Scott may still make an appearance during Kanye's set, though Kanye's performance still allegedly hinges on an apology from Billie Eilish for reasons that remain ridiculous.
