The Cliks

Snakehouse

BY Liz WorthPublished Mar 23, 2007

Snakehouse is one of those albums that grabs you right from the beginning and refuses to let up. As the first few notes of robust opening track ¡§Complicated¡¨ spill out into a feisty, charged-up song that breathes fire, it fast becomes obvious that the Cliks are a band to get excited about. Only together for two years, this Toronto group wield a power behind their songwriting that is conveyed through barebones sincerity and skilfully delivered sonic explosions that hammer out fierce arrangements and defiant melodies. That the Cliks have garnered heavy comparisons to the Pretenders „o more specifically, charismatic vocalist Lucas Silveira to Chrissie Hynde „o is no exaggeration, although it wouldn¡¦t be fair to the work that Silveira has put into getting this band out there to simply allow the Cliks to step into another band¡¦s place. The Cliks are strong enough to stand on their own.
