Halifax singer-songwriter Christina Martin releases her latest LP It'll Be Alright next week, but you can stream it a week early, right here on Exclaim.ca
Marking her fifth album, and the follow-up to 2012's Sleeping with a Stranger, the new record hears Martin bridging a gap between her older work and the desire to evolve creatively.
"Experimentation is the lifeblood of any artist," reads a press release. "But occasionally they experience moments when everything comes into focus, and suddenly they have opened a door to a limitless creative future." The same release declares that Martin has reached that point on It'll Be Alright.
While her traditional folk influences remain in tact, Martin also explored the craft of writing modern pop songs this time around. The opening title track establishes this approach from the get-go, proving to be catchy and upbeat, but still firmly rooted in Martin's songwriting skill and driven by rock'n'roll guitars and drums. And there's still a healthy dose of melancholy folk numbers like "I've Got a Gun" and "Puppet Museum," thrown in.
"To say the album is Martin's most accomplished effort to date is stating the obvious," continues the release. "What is remarkable is how her maturity has translated into her most accessible album to date as well."
Well, you can access the record right now, before it officially arrives on February 24 via Come Undone Records/Fontana North. Give it a stream in the player below.
