Christina Martin

Nova Scotia's Christina Martin is back with her fifth album, Sleeping with a Stranger. As the title suggests, the tracks are ephemeral and romantic yet ultimately wistful. "Painting Blame" is an especially pretty portrait of a failed relationship. Her voice, one that conveys frailty via its technical strength, fits the mood of her songwriting perfectly. Her range lies in the higher registers, which expresses the same sense of youth, femininity and nostalgia as the mood in which she writes. A particularly beautiful track that demonstrates this is "Take My Body Home." "Secret Song," "Marina" and opening track "Water It" are also great examples of her craftsmanship, perfectly showcasing her ability as a pop musician. Martin's long, successful career, which has taken her to Austin, TX, during which time she opened for alt-country legends Wilco, has made yet another successful pit stop with the release of Sleeping with a Stranger.
