Chris Jongkind’s latest album is less varied than 2003’s Yamanote. This time, he focuses on a deep trance and techno sound and leaves some of the more experimental bits behind. The London, ON-based producer has produced eight tracks that flow together with a deep groove. "Shin-Nihombashi,” "Walled City” and the very long "Linear” have a lot of different elements that work well together to create a danceable groove. These tracks all owe a lot to the early trance sound of the ’90s. Others, like "Local Train” and "Saturn,” depend too much on loops and don’t evolve enough. There are some good ideas in the songs but they aren’t used to their full potential. Taken together, it’s deep and spacey stuff, which could work well on many dance floors.
