The seven members of Choir of Young Believers managed to squeeze themselves onto the stage, and their professionalism was evident from the efficient soundcheck that seamless segued into their opening track. No less than two keyboard players, two percussionists, cellist, bassist and guitarist, their set up and style were an unusual choice for the electronics-heavy Ghostly International and the label's showcase, existing as the band do on the pop side of the tracks more than any other artist on the Michigan label's roster. Still, the Danish band played a brand of expertly crafted avant-pop reminiscent of the best days of Talk Talk with a great melodic sense. Supporting the imminent release of their excellent second album, Choir of Young Believers' command of both the stage and their songwriting is at a point where we should be expecting to hear a lot more of them.
