Alexi Laiho — the veteran Finnish metal guitarist and vocalist best known for fronting Children of Bodom — has passed away. He died at the age of 41 last week after suffering from long-term (but undisclosed) health issues.
The news was confirmed today by Bodom After Midnight, a group that formed after Children of Bodom disbanded last year.
"We are crushed by the sudden passing of our dear friend and band member," the band wrote. "Words cannot describe this shock and the profound sadness that we feel."
In a separate statement, Alexi's wife Kelli Wright-Laiho added, "Alexi was the most loving and magnificent husband and father. Our hearts are eternally broken."
Children of Bodom's final album Hexed was released in 2019. Bodom After Midnight recorded three songs and are expected to release a posthumous music video soon.
