In 2021, Montreal's Charlotte Cardin rose from the ashes to deliver her acclaimed debut album Phoenix. Nearly two years later, she's turning those ashes into "Confetti" with her new single.
The track arrives on the 58th night of the mysterious countdown from 99 the singer-songwriter has been teasing on social media.
"'Confetti' is an ode to introverts," Cardin said in a press release. "I had the realization that at every single party I had ever been to, I would lock myself in the bathroom at some point and try to compose myself and gather my thoughts. And when I became aware of that, I thought, 'Okay I should write a song about this.' It's a party track for people who hate actually being at the party."
An Alessia Cara "Here"-esque anthem for wallflowers, the single has a seething four-on-the-floor thump that buoys Cardin's dark thoughts about dying at the party — and lashing out at fellow guests — with an earworm la-da-da-da-da hook.
