Montreal songwriter Cedric Noel has shared a video for new single "Allies," the third taste of his upcoming record Hang Time, out November 12 on Joyful Noise/Forward Music Group.
"Like many of the songs on the album, I wrote this one when I was pondering both the genuineness and strength of the allyship in my life, and how it intertwines with trust," Noel said of the track in a statement. "Repeating the words 'are you on my side' felt necessary...almost like a constant reminder."
The single is swelling and elliptical, culminating in a piece of speech from Malcolm X that eventually overwhelms Noel's arrangement in a swirl of noise. The lush, intimate Ali Vanderkruyk-directed video finds the singer in the woods, being drenched in water.
"Allies" follows the previously released "Comuu" and "Nighttime (Skin)."
