Casey MQ has announced plans for his sophomore album, Later that day, the day before, or the day before that, due June 7 via Ghostly International.
Said to find the Los Angeles-via-Canada producer combining his "electronica expertise with his love for piano compositions to create an atmosphere," the record is Casey's first for Ghostly, and second full-length release after 2020's babycasey. It finds him drawing inspiration from Claude Debussy and Joni Mitchell, as well as Studio Ghibli film scores.
"It's a memory album, and it might be a breakup album, too…" he shared of the effort in a release. "There are more questions than answers."
Today, Casey previews the album with lead single "The Make Believe," a team-up with frequent collaborator Oklou.
"This song is the closing track to my forthcoming album and a love letter to ever-changing memories," said Casey. "I wrote it when I needed reassurance. I have often felt as though I am pieces of a scattered self and need to reckon with perpetually shifting memories and everyday loss. There is joy in forgetting; the song, to me, feels like the push or guidance of a loving friend, so expressing the sentiment with one of my best friends felt right."
