Cancer Bats

Birthing the Giant

BY Jasamine White-GluzPublished Jul 1, 2006

It may come as a great shock to learn that this is the first full-length from Canada’s own Cancer Bats. Countless high profile tours and regular Much Music play led me to believe this band have a much larger discography. Birthing the Giant may be the first album from the Bats, but it is definitely a well honed sound. With all the swagger of Southern rock but all the slummy goodness of New York City punk, the Cancer Bats slam through 12 impressively heavy tracks. Standouts on the album are the obvious crowd pleaser "French Immersion” and the mosh-ready "Death Bros.”
