Calm Hatchery

Sacrilege of Humanity

BY Denise FalzonPublished Dec 21, 2010

Featuring members of Dead Infection and Tehace, Polish death metal quintet Calm Hatchery unleash their Selfmadegod Records debut, Sacrilege of Humanity, with calculated brutality. Within the realm of genre masters Immolation and Decapitated, Calm Hatchery apply the traditional elements of catchy, chugging riffs and ungodly drumming, mixing them with crushing technicality and melody. Add to that Egyptian-related themes clearly influenced by Nile and you have a winner of a release. Midway through Sacrilege of Humanity are its highlights, as the well-written "We are the Universe" features tons of melody and the much more unusual "Mirror Giants" exudes technical prowess reminiscent of Decrepit Birth's approach on their latest, Polarity. But the technicality on the album isn't overwhelming; the simplicity in certain areas is welcome, the diverse tracks contrasting one another well. Extreme and dynamic, with well-executed song arrangements and thought provoking themes, Sacrilege of Humanity is an album unlike most in the modern technical death metal world.
