BTS have joined the conversation surrounding anti-Asian violence and discrimination, as the K-pop megastars have issued a statement discussing their own experiences of racism.
In a statement posted on Twitter in both Korean and English, the group expressed grief, condolences and anger at the rise in anti-Asian violence over the past year. They wrote, "We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians. We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look."
They wrote that their experiences have been "inconsequential" compared to what others have faced as of late, but that "these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem."
They ended the open letter by writing, "You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together."
They posted the statement along with the hashtags #StopAsianHate and #StopAAPIHate. Read it in full below.
