Bry Webb has lifted the curtain on his third studio album. The Constantines frontman will share Run with Me, his first solo outing in nine years, on November 3 via Idée Fixe Records.
The 10-song Run with Me follows Webb's 2014 album Free Will, and — if you didn't guess from its marbled cover art — will form a triptych of solo LPs with that album and 2011's Provider upon its arrival.
Of the trio, Run with Me is characterized as the outlier, at times eschewing the quietude of its predecessors to embrace "the rallying rhythms of Constantines' anthems." The album's material was composed in a time of upheaval for the artist, which Webb details in a release as follows:
In early 2023 my personal life exploded. In the process of dealing with that, I started writing music again and started recording at home. Advised that I needed to figure out how to ask for, and accept, help from other people, I sent early recordings of songs to friends from twenty-five years of music making - many folks I hadn't connected with in years - and asked if they'd contribute anything to the songs. People came through in ways that overwhelmed me to the point that I cried when I wrote out the list of players for the liner notes. I felt incredibly cared for. From Andy Magoffin, who recorded the first Constantines album in 1999, to members of the Cons, to my nieces Addy and Ella playing drums, and a doppler recording of my daughter's heartbeat, the record is a document of my creative life, and the people who made it possible to make music again.
Racing alongside Webb on Run with Me are Jennifer Castle, Julie Doiron, Daniel Romano, Steph Yates of Cots and Constantines' Will Kidman, Doug MacGregor and Dallas Wehrle.
"Thunder Bay" — which you may remember Webb performing with his Harbourcoats outfit — is the first of the album's songs to arrive, and you can hear the spirited song named for the Northwestern Ontario city below.
In the time since Free Will, Webb has been working in (and defending) community radio. This fall, he'll tour Ontario and Quebec with support from Cots and Eamon McGrath on select dates. You can find his complete itinerary below.
