Since releasing his self-titled debut in 1970, Canadian folk rock hero Bruce Cockburn has had an incredibly full career, releasing 22 more studio albums and dedicating himself to a number of political and social causes. He has also received numerous awards, including the Order of Canada and induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. With such a rich history behind him, the timing couldn't be better to tell his life story.

As the CBC reports, Cockburn has signed a deal with HarperCollinsCanada to write his memoir.

"Over the years, the notion that there should be a book about me has popped up now and then, along with offers to write it," Cockburn said in a press release. "It always seemed too soon and I've felt all along that such a book should be mine to author."

The book is tentatively slated for release in April of 2012. Before then, he'll participate in a tribute to his catalogue at the Luminato Festival in Toronto. He is also planning to hit the studio and record his 24th album, due for release in 2011.
