Three months after the premiere of Hulu's New York Times Presents documentary, Framing Britney Spears, BBC released The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship. In response, Britney Spears herself has now spoken out against the filmmakers for their "hypocritical" focus on her life's trauma.
In a new Instagram post — featuring one of many dance videos from the singer — Spears posted a lengthy response to the recent films about her life, ongoing conservatorship battle with her father and the ensuing #FreeBritney movement.
"So many documentaries about me this year with other people's takes on my life... what can I say... I'm deeply flattered," she began. "These documentaries are so hypocritical... they criticize the media and then do the same thing?????"
She continued: "I don't know y'all but I'm thrilled to remind you all that although I've had some pretty tough times in my life... I've had waaaayyyy more amazing times in my life and unfortunately my friends... I think the world is more interested in the negative."
Spears went on to ask, "Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago?"
Back when the Framing documentary aired, Spears admitted that she cried "for two weeks" after feeling "embarrassed" by the way she was portrayed.
At the time, she wrote, "My life has always been very speculated... watched... and judged really my whole life. It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I've always been so judged... insulted... and embarrassed by the media... and I still am till this day."
Meanwhile, the team behind the Framing documentary have signed on to do another expository piece on Janet Jackson's infamous Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction incident. Neither Jackson nor Justin Timberlake has agreed to participate in the doc.
