Tonight two of Canada's most relentlessly hard-working musicians are joining forces to kick off a tour of Eastern Canada. Brian Borcherdt, front-man of electro-instrumentalists Holy Fuck and multi-genre solo performer, will embark on the tour with long-time secret pop sensation Julie Fader, who spends her time in Great Lake Swimmers and has served as a long-time collaborator with acts like Sarah Harmer, Chad VanGaalen, Attack in Black and Blue Rodeo.
It's up in the air which albums Borcherdt will play from. His latest, Coyotes, was a subdued but emotionally raw folk outing, his previous self-titled album was a moody and dramatic pop piece and, of course, there's always his Holy Fuck catalogue to pull from. On top of that, he just released the new Torches (& the Ward Colorado demos), which dropped via Hand Drawn Dracula and can be picked up for the price of free here.
As for Fader, she will likely play from her recent solo debut Outside In. If you've yet to check one of her shows, here's how we once described them: "Live, Fader's beguiling voice and finely chosen musical textures have struck every kind of crowd dumb, suddenly held in the sway of her siren songs."
The duo will start in St. John's, NL tonight (November 19) and head down through PEI and the other Maritimes before heading west through Quebec and ending in Hamilton, ON on November 30.
