Brendan Canning's new album is called You Gots 2 Chill, but the Broken Social Scene member doesn't seem to be following his own advice, since he's had a very busy recent run that has included reviving his band Cookie Duster, scoring a Lindsay Lohan movie and booking a solo tour. You Gots 2 Chill is out on October 1 through Draper Street Records/SQE, and it's now available to stream in full ahead of time.
The album was created without the help of Broken Social Scene or the folks at Arts & Crafts. Instead, it's an homespun affair with origins in Canning's Toronto living room; he even created the cover artwork himself.
These 14 tracks have a quirky, spontaneous quality. The sound is centred around folksy guitar plucking and Elliott Smith-style vocal delicacy, which are frequently overlaid with lo-fi drum machines and experimental, atmospheric touches. Stream it below.
