Blood Orange

Rejected demos for Britney Spears

He's written and produced for the likes of Solange and Sky Ferreira, but apparently Britney Spears didn't appreciate the work of Blood Orange (a.k.a. Dev Hynes).

The New York-based producer and musician wrote two tracks for Spears' 2013 record Britney Jean, which were rejected but have now surfaced online. The first of the pair is a glitchy, PBR&B-esque number, while the second one (titled "10 Seconds") is more of a downtrodden piano ballad.

Speaking to the Guardian last year, Hynes said: "They'd always come back with why they didn't like it and it wouldn't make any sense. I'd almost prefer them to say: 'We're scared we're not going to make any money so we're just going to use Will.i.am.'"

While it may not have been a totally amicable working relationship, at least we can now hear the demos at the centre of the rift. Give the two rejected demos a listen below courtesy of Pigeons and Planes/Consequence of Sound. As a bonus, you'll also find a demo that would become Sky Ferreira's "Everything Is Embarrassing."
