Billy Woods and Kenny Segal have announced a new collaborative LP. The MC and producer will share Maps on May 5.
The 17-song Maps follows Woods and Segal's celebrated 2019 album Hiding Places. Their latest set of songs is said to be "a story of the road, or roads, taken and untaken; of living the dream and dreaming of another life."
"Kenny and I made more songs together before Hiding Places than we did after," Woods said in a statement. "I think we only collaborated once over the last four years and although we didn't talk about it, I think we wanted to let that energy build again. Neither of us wanted to make Hiding Places 2. We needed to go on other journeys, artistic and otherwise, to come back and do something fresh."
Produced entirely by Segal, Maps sports guest features from Danny Brown, Woods's Armand Hammer groupmate Elucid, Shabaka Hutchings (playing flute on "Baby Steps"), Future Islands frontman Sam Herring, Quelle Chris, Aesop Rock, Benjamin Booker and ShrapKnel.
The first song to arrive from the album is the gleaming, Herring-assisted "FaceTime," which you can hear below.
In 2019, Segal produced an entire album by the Future Islands singer under his rap alias Hemlock Ernst. This summer, Herring and Future Islands will play Toronto as part of Weezer's North American tour.
Earlier this year, Billy Woods appeared on a new album from Algiers. In 2022, he delivered a pair of full-lengths in Aethiopes and Church.
