Following left-field collaborations with Modest Mouse, Owl City and his own 16-year-old daughter, rapper Big Boi will seemingly do anything as long as it's not satisfy our desires for an Outkast reunion. Despite regular promises of a new Outkast album, Big Boi has instead opted to hype up a new solo album.
Speaking with Australia's Junior Online [via Pitchfork], Big Boi revealed that he's already nearly finished his next solo effort. The record is tentatively called Daddy Fat Sax: Soul Funk Crusader, and is said to feature a guest appearance from Janelle Monáe.
"I'm 17 songs into it now, everything is sounding phenomenal," Big Boi said. "I could put it out tomorrow if I wanted to, but I'mma marinate on it because I'm on the road. I feel good about it, all the music's sounding great... I'm just really stayin' busy out here killin' it."
As for how the album sounds, he explained, "Oh man, it's going to be S-A-X-X-X triple unadulterated funk to the extremest level.. Straight lyrical assassin, and the beats are going to be as hard hitting as always. I'mma let everything else be a surprise, and just let it speak for itself."
Big Boi also mentioned that he's working with Monáe on her next solo album, saying, "She's somebody whose hand you don't have to hold. She's got a creative mind, she's got a great spirit. She's a good girl and I'm proud of her. She's making me very proud."
Big Boi released his last album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty in 2010.
