Earlier this week, a man opened fire in the camping area of George, WA, EDM festival Beyond Wonderland, killing two people and injuring three others.

Now, the suspect — 26-year-old active-duty US Army member James M. Kelly — has given testimony stating he was high on mushrooms and experiencing a bad trip when he began firing at the Gorge Amphitheater. According to local news outlets, Kelly told investigators that he'd travelled to Beyond Wonderland with his girlfriend, and had set up a tent at the Gorge campground. On Saturday evening, he says he took a dose of mushrooms before heading to the venue.

After he and his girlfriend Lily Lukisich arrived at the concert, Kelly says he began having apocalyptic hallucinations, which prompted him to get his handgun from his truck, load it, and start shooting. Two victims, 29-year-old Brandy Escamilla and 26-year-old Josilyn Ruiz, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Luksich called 911 as Kelly opened fire, but Kelly grabbed her phone from her and threw it. Kelly also fired a shot at Luksich's foot and a second into her upper leg; court documents state that the second shot was life-threatening and could have resulted in permanent injury.

Kelly is being held without bond and is scheduled for arraignment on July 5.
