Ben Rough "St. David's Walk" on Exclaim! TV
Published Jan 23, 2015A short online bio of Ben Rough describes him as a "brief describer of self" in addition to being a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and "enthusiasm enthusiast." Perhaps it's just as well for the Peterborough musician, who lets the stories he tells through song do more of the talking.
In collaboration with Pinball Sessions, we met up with Rough on location at the Peterborough Folk Festival to watch him perform "St. David's Walk," a track taken from his 2013 solo record New Names for Old Flames.
Leading off with a plucky, clean electric guitar, Rough lays down some bluesy harmonica work before heading into the chorus section. Creating vivid imagery with his lyrics, the man leaves each word hanging with a folksy drawl while strumming his way through the piece. "Let's grab a bottle and paint the town," he urges as a constant refrain, interspersed with moments strong harmonica soloing.
