Though details are still developing, it's been revealed that an early morning shooting in Pleasantville, NJ, has placed Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel in hospital with a gunshot wound to the torso.
Press of Atlantic City [via Consequence of Sound] reports that the rapper (born Dwight Grant) was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for abdominal surgery following an altercation at a Jersey Shore home. Police found the rapper at the scene with a gunshot wound to the torso and have taken a suspect into custody following a car chase.
Another victim reportedly refused medical treatment on the scene, though the extent of his injury is unclear.
"All I can confirm at this time is that Mr. Dwight Grant was shot this morning after an altercation on Spruce Avenue," Pleasantville police chief Jose Ruiz said in a statement, adding that Sigel suffered a "through and through" wound and that his condition is "serious."
Prior to the shooting, Sigel had posted a picture of himself, Freeway and more posing during a photo shoot.
Sigel has been on probation since being released from jail last August after serving a two-year sentence over tax evasion. He had been charged by the Internal Revenue Service with owing more than $728,000 in back taxes. Police said Sigel was wearing his ankle bracelet at the time of the shooting.
This is not the first time the former Roc-a-Fella rapper has been shot, having been wounded in a 2006 robbery.
