After reuniting in March as Be Your Own Pet for their first new song since 2008, Jemina Pearl Abegg, Jonas Stein, Nathan Vasquez and John Eatherly have officially cemented their return with plans for a new full-length album titled Mommy and a fall North American tour.
The band's third studio album — billed as "the bitch in charge, the one in control" by Pearl, who explained, "It's a reclamation of myself" — arrives August 25 through Jack White's Third Man Records.
"For better or worse, we all were slapped in the face that it wasn't as easy on our own," Stein said of their hiatus in press materials. "We were all moderately successful, but nobody found that Be Your Own Pet chemistry."
Mommy was previewed earlier this year with "Hand Grenade." Now, the quartet have unleashed the indie-sleaze-reanimating "Worship the Whip," shared alongside a music video directed by Jordan William and shot by Ben Chappel.
"'Worship the Whip' is about the right-wing authoritarian personality," said Pearl. "Aggressive and domineering to people who don't think like them, while at heart being a submissive to the authority figures who use and abuse them."
