The Ballantynes

'Dark Drives, Life Signs' (album stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 7, 2015

Today marks the official release of old school r&B act the Ballantynes' first full-length LP, Dark Drives,Life Signs. While the album is tailor-made to be spun on your turntable, no doubt to be paired with a couple of slugs of whiskey and a night of at-home dancing, you can also enjoy the record via an online stream.

The Vancouver sextet had previously teased the platter with the shimmering soul number "Argent," but there's plenty more to groove to on Dark Drives, Life Signs. For instance, check out the driving snare rolls, awe-inducing organs and positive vibes of opener "PMA," or the busy rave-up pace of "My Place Your Town." Stunning is the spooked-out and spectral, strings-slathered approach of "Ghost," which basically sounds like singer Jarrod O'Dell is down on his knees, praying for sweet relief from what haunts his heart.

The album is available now via La Ti Da Records, and will be supported with an upcoming West Coast tour. You'll find the info on the dates down below.
