Bad Flirt

Virgin Talk

BY Sofi PapamarkoPublished Sep 28, 2008

Bad Flirt’s Virgin Talk is sort of like a kitten with rabies — cute yet vicious. The Montreal band’s second full-length release has all of the raw components of full-scale pop: hooks, harmonies and Jasamine White-Gluz’s sugar-sweet voice. But there’s also a definite punk edge to the songwriting, especially on mid-point tracks like "Double Double Date,” "Of Mastodons and Men” and "How I’m Spending My Summer Vacation” (featuring the vocals of Promise Ring’s Davey Von Bohlen). On Virgin Talk, Bad Flirt are sweetness and light, with a hell of a bite. You’ll be compelled to listen to it over and over again but whatever you do, do not try to pet the band. You will be sorry.
