Bad Bunny Talks Throwing Fan's Phone: "Bro, That Cellphone Didn't Break"

He claims he tossed it into the bushes and that she retrieved it safely

There's been far too much phone-throwing discourse in the world of pop music as of late — most recently, Bebe Rexha was recently struck in the face while on stage after an audience member whipped a phone at her head — and now Bad Bunny is adding to the conversation.

In a new Rolling Stone cover story, Bad Bunny discusses this year's viral video that showed the pop star chucking an overly eager fan's phone into some bushes after she shoved into him for a selfie. Now, Bad Bunny says that while he felt bad following the interaction, the reaction to the phone toss was overblown.

The incident happened in January, when the pop star was vacationing in the Dominican Republic. As he walked down the street with friends, a crowd of fans formed: "People were recording," he told Rolling Stone. "I love going to D.R., so I was waving to everyone, like, 'Que lo que!'"

Suddenly, a woman rushed in front of him for a selfie, getting into his personal space. "That person got right on me, leaned directly on my body," he said. He subsequently grabbed her phone and tossed it. When asked if he felt bad about it, he replied: "The next day! The next day, the next day."

However, he claims that the blowback was out of hand, explaining that he didn't actually break the phone or toss it into the water, as some outlets — including Exclaim! — were reporting at the time.

"Bro, that cellphone didn't break. It exists. It bothers me that people haven't said that. I didn't throw that phone into the water. I threw it into some bushes." He explained. "She has it. She should upload the video."

Yet another good opportunity to question our relationships to celebrity and how our cellphones can complicate that!
