As previously reported, Cameron Reed is resuscitating his electronic music alter ego Babe Rainbow and issuing his first-ever full-length under the moniker called Falling Apart. Now, ahead of the record's July 7 due date via Kinky Beggar, the Toronto-based soundscaper is letting loose a stream of its "The Bells."
Considering the creeped-out tones of Babe Rainbow's back catalogue, this marks a new, playful direction for the artist. Jumpy drum machine patterns and a steady-shaker rhythm support a slightly sunburnt keyboard line and other major-key melodies for most of the tune. The track gets bizarre, though, as he temporarily veers off into the world of dad blues via a sample of Bud Lime-slurping guitar licks and pitch-shifted vocal moans.
