Avenged Sevenfold have announced their long-awaited new album. The California metal crew will deliver eighth studio LP Life Is but a Dream... on June 2 via Warner Records.
Previously, frontman M. Shadows had shared that Life Is but a Dream... was "very influenced by Kanye West," and it's also safe to say it won't feature pop production. An immediate link to Ye can be found in the album's cover art (seen above) from Wes Lang, whose artwork adorned the artist's Yeezus tour merchandise.
Now, a press release shares that Life Is but a Dream..., written and recorded over four years, was inspired by the writing and philosophy of Albert Camus, resulting in lyrics "rooted in existentialism and absurdism."
While a complete tracklist has yet to be revealed, Life Is but a Dream... is previewed today by "Nobody," marking Avenged Sevenfold's first new material since 2016's The Stage.
"Nobody" arrives alongside a stop-motion video from Chris Hopewell, the award-winning director behind visuals for Radiohead's "Burn the Witch" and "Walking In the Snow" from Run the Jewels. In it, the protagonist explores the dichotomy of life and death in the midst of their own existential crisis.
Shadows also previously shared that the release of Life Is but a Dream... will mark the end of the band's current recording contract, explaining, "This next record, I don't know exactly how it comes out, but the record after that, we have no label. At that point we start implementing all the new ideas of going straight to the base of people that really care more. The new frontier excites us; expect very wacky ideas!"
