New Brunswick-based post-punk trio Motherhood have announced a new album, Winded, due out June 24 via Forward Music Group. They have also released "Ripped Sheet," an aggressive new single reminiscent of Osees at their most ferocious, accompanied by an animated music video by Amery Sandford.

"We wrote 'Ripped Sheet' after talking about writing a 'straight-ahead punk' song for a while and then finally learning some Bad Brains covers," co-founder Brydon Crain said in a press release.

He added: "Lyrically, I was trying to describe the transition from my lowest point to getting sober, to the euphoria I was feeling once I was back in regular life. I could see that there was a long way to go but I was happy to be back on dry land and moving."

A press release states that Winded "dives headlong into a narrative that explores the mundanity of the natural world as it mirrors human suffering … The songs on Winded are about 'persevering — perhaps for no good reason.' But perseverance is no futile gesture, and Winded is as resolute as a 'tightrope over a deep hole.'"

The album was mixed by Deerhoof's Greg Saunier and features vocal contributions by Les Hay Babies' Julie Aubé and Katrine Noël.

Motherhood's latest album was 2019's Dear Bongo,.
