The National just announced a new album, First Two Pages of Frankenstein, this week — but they already seem to be hinting at something else.

In an announcement on their website, the National noted that their 2022 single "Weird Goodbyes" (with Bon Iver) will get a flexi disc release through the band's Cherry Tree fan community. Cryptically, the announcement adds, "Previously released digitally, this will be an initial physical release of the song ahead of its future home."

The vague reference to a "future home" for "Weird Goodbyes" was echoed by the band's Aaron Dessner. In an Instagram post about the album, he wrote, "And for those of you asking, 'Weird Goodbyes' is also part of something very special, we made a mountain of music we love." He added a winking emoji to the post.

Time will tell how "Weird Goodbyes" finds a "future home" among this "mountain of music." The band haven't confirmed anything about a second album — although this would be an obvious explanation for what they're alluding to.

First Two Pages of Frankenstein will be out on April 28; hear the single "Tropic Morning News" here.
