Arch Enemy

"As The Pages Burn" (lyric video)

Cross-continental metal militia Arch Enemy have revealed another battle cry from their upcoming War Eternal, ripping us a new one with this latest thrash attack, "As The Pages Burn."

Delivered in a lyric video, the cut goes for the throat up front with a demonically trilled-out guitar line and a dizzying, Four Horseman drum gallop. New singer Alissa White-Gluz goes gonzo on the cut, sending out a series of distressed screams about faded memories, the burden of knowledge and giving in to "sweet amnesia." Visually, we get to see the album art, a haunting forest-set tableaux, and lyrics scrawled across sheet music.

"'As The Pages Burn' almost goes back to the style of writing that I had in the late 90's," guitarist Michael Amott said in a statement. "It's very old school Arch Enemy with an almost Slayer-vibe in the intro/verse and a huge melodic chorus. A bit like 'The Immortal' and other AE classics of that time. The middle section is very classical music inspired — a twin guitar part that is a lot fun to play."

As previously reported, War Eternal is Arch Enemy's ninth studio LP and it hits North American stores June 10 through Century Media.
