Once again, Animal Collective bro Avey Tare is going solo for a new album. Titled Cows on Hourglass Pond, his latest solo effort will arrive on March 22.
The album follows the 2017 release Eucalyptus by Avey Tare (a.k.a. Dave Portner). The LP was recorded between January and March of last year by the musician himself at Laughing Gas in Asheville, NC, on a Tascam 48 half-inch reel-to-reel tape machine. It was then mixed by Adam McDaniel and Portner at Drop of Sun Studios.
Our first taste of Cows on Hourglass Pond comes via the track "Saturdays (Again)," which you can listen to here via the DSP of your choice. Down below, you can also watch a newly shared video for the track.
Director Abby Portner said of the clip, "For the 'Saturdays (Again)' video I wanted to try and create what it would look like inside Avey Tare's new record cover, if you were to step inside and hang out with Dave and the cows in a surreal, colorful landscape. Since I did parts of the record art and paintings in the press photos, I wanted it to all be included inside this video."
The album will be out on CD, digitally and as a deluxe LP, with the latter coming with a bonus 10-inch housing two new non-album tracks — "Tipped in Hugs" and "Dog Says Goodbye" — if you order it from the Animal Collective webshop.
In support of the new album, Avey Tare will be heading out on a North American tour starting in March. There's a single Canadian date on the trek: April 4 in Toronto. You can see the full schedule below.
