Three years after Canadian folk figure Amelia Curran delivered her "beautifully haunting" Hunter, Hunter LP, the St. John's-born musician has announced plans for her next set, Spectators. The album, her sixth overall, arrives October 2 via Six Shooter Records.
A press release explains that the Juno winner's latest effort was produced by John Critchley, and apparently "brings surprises, including brass, strings, piano, and rumbling percussion." The set is said to push beyond Curran's usual folky fare, from the doom-and-gloom Dixieland dirge "What Will You be Building" to the "dark, tense, shivering" "The Modern Man."
Curran has also tapped a few guests for Spectators, including the Once, Todor Kobakov, Bryden Baird, Selina Martin, Oh Susanna and Martin Tielli.
While there's still about a month left before the album hits retailers, you can sample album opener "Years" in the player down below.
Curran is also set to play a handful of Canadian shows, and you can check out her itinerary just above that player.
Tour dates:
10/12 St John's, NL - Arts & Culture Centre
10/23-24 Charlottetown, PEI - Trailside Café
10/25 Halifax, NS - Spatz Theatre
11/1 Montreal, QC - Upstairs Jazz Club
11/2-3 Wakefield, QC - Blacksheep Inn
11/8 Toronto, ON - The Rivoli
11/9 London, ON - London Music Club
