Amebix Return with New LP

Were it not for British brigade Amebix, the landscape of modern heavy music would be drastically different (read: a lot suckier). Thanks to their amalgamation of anarchistic nihilism, barbaric riffs, and classic albums Arise! and Monolith -- released in 1985 and 1987, respectively -- they pretty much defined the state of crust punk/heavy metal crossover alongside equally dirty acts Motörhead and Discharge before disbanding after Monolith's release.

Breaking that silence with last year's Redux EP after reforming in 2008, Amebix have announced the completion of their official tertiary full-length. Entitled Sonic Mass, the nine-song affair is being issued by Alternative Tentacles in CD format and deluxe vinyl by Profane Existence. It's scheduled to hit store shelves on September 20, a date they point out is the cusp of the autumnal equinox, whatever that means to grinding gutter punks, grindcore freaks and metalheads.

Recorded at Rock Cottage in Derbyshire and the Lodge Studios in Northampton, England, the album was engineered, mixed and produced by drummer Roy Mayorga (Nausea, Crisis, Soulfly, Stone Sour) and features longtime members in vocalist/bassist Rob "The Baron" Miller and guitarist Stig C. Miller.
