Alden Penner Announces 'Canada in Space' EP with Michael Cera, Shares Single

The Unicorns' Alden Penner delivered an EP of demos from 2004 at the end of last year, but the musician is looking to the future — and the final frontier — for his next release.

Penner has announced that his next EP will be titled Canada in Space. It's due out on June 29 through City Slang.

We previously heard the "hazy, dream-inducing trip" of first single "Meditate," which featured actor-turned-musician Michael Cera. A new mix of that song will appear on the forthcoming EP, and Cera guests throughout the other songs, as well. He will also be joining Penner for a string of live shows in the UK and Europe this summer.

According to Penner, the new album takes its inspiration from the high volume of Canadian participants in the Mars colony, and hears Penner exploring sounds and themes that are out of this world. In a statement from a press release, he said:

There are more Canadians than any other nationality represented in the planned Mars colony. The Canada in Space EP is an imagining of the dreams, reveries, phantasms, hallucinations, psycho-spiritual projections, naïve mythologies, actions, visions and experiences of an abandoned crew before, during and after its permanent journey to Mars; the compression of time; dispersion, fragmentation of states and generations in space; ultimate detachment & wormholes.

Below, you can take a listen to the woozy, warbling, seven-minute long Canada in Space cut "Breathe to Burn."
