Alberta Cross Sign to Dine Alone for New Album

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 21, 2015

Pairing nicely with that Prairies-saluting band name, UK-bred outfit Alberta Cross have announced that they've just signed a record deal with Canadian imprint Dine Alone. Their first LP for the label will be a self-titled set, which sees release October 16.

While the outfit had previously issued music via ATO/MapleMusic Recordings, a press release confirms that they've inked up with Dine-Alone for a new worldwide deal.

The impending self-titled collection was co-produced by Alberta Cross vocalist/guitarist Petter Ericson Stakee and Claudius Mittendorfer (Johnny Marr, Kaiser Chiefs, Temples), and was recorded in Upstate New York at the Dreamland studio.

"It's this beautiful old church that they'd turned into a studio," Stakee explained in a statement. "I've always wanted to record in a church."

The collection, which follows 2012's Songs of Patience, is said to feature songs that were birthed from "secret late-night jams" in New York City earlier in the year. Apparently, the collection finds the band beefing up their sound with the use of brass sections and strings.

"On this record, we have all these new colors," Stakee said. "It felt pretty amazing. I wanted those late night jams to inspire the record. It was very loose, not a lot of structure. I wanted to keep that vibe — the looseness and the soul. Mandolin, violin, French horn, flugelhorn, trumpet — we put those on a lot of tracks. That was a new thing for me and very inspiring. This record seems so… pure to me."
