"I'm so lucky to be as well off as I am, it could've been much much worse"

Against Me! drummer and punk rock vet Atom Willard is recovering following surgery for injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Sharing images of himself in hospital and the protective gear that did its job, Willard wrote on Instagram Thursday (August 18), "Today I had surgery on my right thumb and wrist to repair breaks I sustained in a motorcycle wreck on Saturday. I'm OK. I am OK, but I'm also kind of messed up. Broken collarbone, four broken ribs, pulmonary contusion, broken toe, road rash and That whole thumb and wrist thing I already talked about."

The drummer — who has also performed and recorded with Rocket from the Crypt, the OffspringAngels & AirwavesSocial Distortion and Danko Jones — called himself "lucky to be as well off as I am."

"Over 45 miles an hour to a dead stop after being cut off by someone turning left is it bad combo," Willard continued. "Please look twice for motorcycles. Please be safe out there. So many of my friends have already gone above and beyond, you know who you are and I thank you dearly. TAKE CARE PEOPLE. PS I don't have jaundice, all the yellow in my shoulder and chest is bruising."

We'd like to wish Willard a smooth recovery and hope he isn't kept away from the drum kit for too long. Against Me!'s most recent album remains 2016's Shape Shift with Me.

Willard also played drums on Bought to Rot, the 2018 debut album from Laura Jane Grace and the Devouring Mothers.
