Adults Gotta Rock Too

KIDS ROCK

BY Cam LindsayPublished Apr 1, 2006

Children are all the rage these days. When they're not making their own music (Smoosh) or Devo's music (Devo 2.0), adults are writing songs in honour of them, like Paper Bag Records' latest project. Designed as an "offering to kids all over the world" See You On the Moon! collects music written exclusively by adult-tested and child-safe indie rock artists. The 17-track album features new material by Hot Chip, Great Lake Swimmers, FemBots, Sufjan Stevens, Junior Boys, Low's Alan Sparhawk (who spreads the message that lice-ridden children have feelings too), as well as Broken Social Scene, who cover Peter, Paul & Mary's classic "Puff the Magic Dragon," which last time I checked was less about a big, friendly dragon and more about puffing away at the ganja, but I guess the kids don't need to know about that.
