Drake brought OVO Fest back to the Molson Amphitheatre in his hometown of Toronto for a sixth consecutive year last night (August 3), delivering a show that featured guest appearances from the likes of Future, Skepta and Kanye West. He even poked fun at the ongoing beef between himself and Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill, wearing a "Free Meek Mill" t-shirt. But the successful event has now been marred by the news of a shooting that took place at the official afterparty.
The afterparty was hosted at Muzik nightclub on the nearby Exhibition grounds, and went into the early hours of this morning (August 4). Police say the "sporadic" shooting took place just before 3:30 a.m., starting inside the club, then spilling out on to nearby streets. A young woman in her 20s was pronounced dead at the scene, while another man in his 20s or 30s died in hospital [via CBC]. Three other male victims were injured and are recovering in hospital. Police believe there may be other victims, and are urging them to seek medical treatment.
Toronto police Inspector Frank Bergen told CP24: "We're satisfied that the organization involved was doing their best and that this occurred at about 3:30 a.m. as things were shutting down for the evening."
It is unclear whether Drake was in attendance when the shooting took place at last night's event.
An investigation is ongoing and police have asked anyone with information to contact them through the Homicide Squad, Crime Stoppers, or 14 Division at 416-808-1400.
Last year's OVO Fest official afterparty also ended in gun violence, with a man in his 30s being taken to hospital following a shooting.
