100 gecs Announce Sophomore Album '10000 gecs'

It's the highly anticipated follow up to the duo's 2019 debut

Hyperpop provocateurs Laura Les and Dylan Brady — aka 100 gecs — have unveiled their new album. While there's no release date or single yet, the record is called 10000 gecs and is "coming soon" via Dog Show Records.

This news comes after July's "10,000 gecs" North American tour announcement, as well as the duo's 2019 debut album 1000 gecs, so the name isn't exactly surprising. Everything else about it is certain to be galaxy brain-inducing, though.

100 gecs haven't really given us much more information, aside from a Pitchfork cover story that serves as a trail of breadcrumbs. Reportedly, the lead single is called "Me Me Me," and other songs are titled "Real Killer," "Hollywood Baby," "Doritos and Fritos," "Billie and Jamie" and "Frog on the Floor." Brady and Les also worked with legendary studio drummer Josh Freese on the project.

"It's 10 times as good as the last one," Les told Pitchfork's Steven J. Horowitz of 10000 gecs. Horowitz writes that 100 gecs' sophomore effort "nudges closer to the mainstream without losing the maniacal, spaghetti-on-the-wall approach that originally positioned them on the sword's point of outré pop."

We'll just have to stay tuned for more details of the duo's next incision. Below, refresh your memory of their tour itinerary — featuring stops in Montreal and Toronto — with further details here.

In 2020, the band released 1000 gecs and the Tree of Clues, a remix album featuring songs from their first LP reworked by hyperpop royalty.
