The Matrix 4 is officially happening, and it's now been revealed that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has landed a lead role in the film.
As Variety reports, Abdul-Mateen emerged as a frontrunner to join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss after meeting with director Lana Wachowski over the past week. Sources close to the film did not elaborate on what Abdul-Mateen's role will be.
Last year, Abdul-Mateen played Black Manta in James Wan's Aquaman, while this year saw him appear in Jordan Peele's Us. He has also recently appeared in The Get Down, The Handmaid's Tale and Black Mirror, and will be featured on HBO's upcoming Watchmen series.
In February, Abdul-Mateen landed the titular role in the Peele-produced Candyman, expected to arrive in theatres next June.
Production on The Matrix 4 is expected to start production early next year.
