Spidey's back! And so are some other characters you may not expect — including Alfred Molina's long-teased reprise of his role as Doctor Octopus (a.k.a. Doc Ock).

Directed by Jon WattsSpider-Man: No Way Home is shaping up to be quite the Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover event. We've finally been given our first look with the release of a teaser trailer.

This three-minute preview of the film — which follows 2017's Homecoming and 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home — is already loaded with action sequences, multiverse twists and returns from the past. Molina's character was killed off in Sam Raimi's 2004 Spider-Man 2, so we're curious to find out how the franchise will frame his return. #JustMultiverseThings?

Likewise, fans have been dreaming of the collision of Tom Holland's current portrayal of the titular hero and his predecessors Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. (Imagine them all suited up and pointing at each other!) While this epic Spidey-squared situation is not officially confirmed as of yet, there are certainly hints that it's possible within this iteration of the MCU — alongside a pretty explicit easter egg suggesting Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin will make an appearance. Jamie Foxx is also rumoured to be making a comeback as Electro.

The trailer was first shared on Twitter with the caption, "What just happened?" which pretty much sums up the viewing experience. Sony elaborates in the teaser's description on YouTube: "For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighbourhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a superhero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange [Benedict Cumberbatch] the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man."

The film also stars Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon and Marisa Tomei.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is expected to hit theatres on December 17.

Back in February, the official title of the movie was revealed by the ever-trolling franchise, while the news of Molina's return as Doctor Octopus came late in 2020.
