Admiral Nelson (Richard Basehart) and Captain Crane (David Hedison) travel the deep-sea world in their well-manned submarine, the Seaview. The crew of the Seaview battle mankinds greatest enemies, both marine and human (and, on occasion, prehistoric). Its ongoing mission is to keep America safe from the marauding dangers of the deep; the abyssal intrigue that ensues includes encounters with giant jellyfish, doomsday, the Nazi party, Mona Lisa, havoc-wreaking robots, brainwashing, human experimentation, mind-expanding hallucinogens, the Loch Ness Monster and kidnappers. Fox fires another 818 minutes of underwater excitement into the home video market. Again, Hedison and Basehart struggle in the great unknown, forging a Cold War battleground in the deep. The series doesnt give much of a glimpse into more littoral settings, as much of the action is on the Seaview at sea, but the occasional forays into landed ambience are successful. Scotland and a remote Nazi island provide some nice contrast to the tech-and-splash setting of most of the episodes. With such adventures as "The Buccaneer, in which an art collector plots to pilfer a Da Vinci from a Worlds Fair-bound ship, the series sets camp heights Allen would later rage to top with The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants. This set features episodes 17 to 32 of the series 110. Extra features include interviews with star David Hedison, a blooper reel and a still gallery. The blooper reel contains such precious scenes as Basehart opening a door to a "censored sign and exclaiming, "Look at the size of that thing! (Fox)
