Todd Phillips Confirms 'Joker' Sequel with Joaquin Phoenix

We (still) live in a society

Well, we suppose this was unavoidable: the Joker sequel is officially underway.

Co-writer and director Todd Phillips took to Instagram yesterday (June 7) to share a photo of the script, revealing the film's full title, Joker: Folie à Deux (can somebody please check on Pete Wentz?).

Phillips also shared a dramatic black-and-white photo of actor Joaquin Phoenix reading the screenplay whilst wearing sunglasses and smoking — just a little something to take the edge off.

Back in 2021, Phillips was tapped to co-write the sequel to 2019's meme-fodder blockbuster. The follow-up script has come to fruition alongside co-writer Scott Silver.

Early rumours speculated that Warner Bros. had offered Phoenix $50 million USD to reprise his Academy Award-winning titular role, and whether or not that's true, he seems to be ready to lace up his clown shoes once again. The original Joker movie illuminated the DC villain's origin story as an aspiring stand-up comedian coping with a neurological disorder.

See Phillips' Instagram post below, and wait with bated breath for glimmers of Fall Out Boy-referential hope from Joker: Folie à Deux.
