Warner Bros. Offers Joaquin Phoenix $50 Million for Two 'Joker' Sequels: Report

Todd Phillips's Joker made serious bank at the box-office, meaning all the talk of it being a standalone film doesn't really matter anymore. Following rumours of a sequel last year, a new report indicates that Warner Bros. might actually be making two follow-up films.

The Mirror has apparently spoken to an insider, who suggested that Warner Bros. has offered Joaquin Phoenix a staggering $50 million USD to star in two sequels to the film.

"Joaquin initially felt Joker was a standalone movie," the insider said. "But he's changed his tune now. He says he wants to play this character again, despite the controversies that came with the release last year.

Apparently Joaquin is working closely with Warner Bros. to oversee scripts and other aspects of the potential films. The idea is reportedly to make two sequels in the next four years.

"Well, a movie doesn't make a billion dollars and they don't talk about a sequel," Todd Phillips had previously told IndieWire. "Joaquin and I have publicly said we've been talking about a sequel since week two of shooting because it's a fun thing to talk about."
