It was reported last April that a TV adaptation of Twilight, Stephenie Meyer's wildly popular book series, was in the works. Nearly a year later, it's been revealed the production will be animated.
Variety confirms that Lionsgate will expand the Twilight franchise, based on Meyer's book series of the same name, with a new animated series.
The publication shares how Michael Burns, vice chairman of Lionsgate, revealed the news during a Q&A at the Morgan Stanley media conference Tuesday (March 5), saying, "We're going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there'll be a lot of interest in that."
Meyer's Twilight novels — Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn — were previously adapted into a film franchise starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. It has yet to be confirmed if any of that trio will reprise their roles in the forthcoming TV adaptation.
The five Twilight films were released between 2008 and 2012, grossing over $3 billion at the global box office collectively.
